Government Changes to Red Diesel Notice

GOVERNMENT CHANGES TO RED DIESEL TAXATION

As you will probably be aware the UK Government is making changes to the taxation of red diesel.

Under current legislation, rebated diesel (so-called red diesel) is permitted for use in any machine that is not a road vehicle; including certain types of vehicles used mainly off-road. Diesel-engine plant and construction equipment mainly falls into this category.

From 1st April 2022, you will no longer be permitted to use red diesel in plant and construction equipment, instead the equipment must use (white) diesel or biofuels on which the full rate of fuel duty has been paid - (white) diesel.

Full information can be found on the below Government website.

All off-hired equipment returned to Trade Plant and Tool Hire Limited should not contain red diesel after 1st April 2022.

Refuelling charges are going to increase significantly.

Summary:

With effect from 1st April 2022 it will be against the law to use red diesel unless it qualifies under the Government guidelines. (see above link)

  • If you use red diesel in Trade Plant and Tool Hire Limited equipment after 1st April 2022 we reserve the right to apply additional charges.
